Click on the button to make a donation using PayPal, then scroll down to see what donation gift you want. You may only choose one gift, but you may donate again for the other gift.
How do I use PayPal to Donate? 1. Make a PayPal account. (Sign Up Today! - Personal Account - Fill in Form)
2. Add funds. (Account - Add Funds)
3. Click on the button above and enter an amount. (Payment is not complete until you click the "Pay" button.)
Why Would I Use PayPal? PayPal is the #1 most secure way to pay online. Even credit cards aren't as secure, because you're giving the seller your card number when you buy something. PayPal transfers funds from your PayPal account into the seller's PayPal account without anyone seeing anyone else's information.
What Do I Do When I've Donated? Either email me or reply to the donation thread with your user name and the amount donated. I'll check my PayPal account to make sure it went through, and I'll add your name and amount to the donators' list. After that's finished, you can go ahead and pick out your donation gift (see below).
One of the gifts I offer donators is a character of themselves, drawn by me.
Price/Size: $5-$9.99 gets you a PNG that is 250 pixels high. $10-$19.99 gets you a PNG that is 400 pixels high. $20+ gets you a PNG that can fit on a t-shirt.
Important Note: These are NOT commissions. This is not a pay-for-service situation. This is a gift that I give out of appreciation for donations made out of the goodness of the donator's heart. Therefore, I will abide no pickiness, dissatisfaction, or requests for redraws. This is a GIFT, as in "Don't look a ___ horse in the mouth."
Specifications: I take great pleasure in making accurate renditions of people as comic characters, and I will do my best on every single gift. That said, I'm only as good as the materials I'm given.
I will need: several photos of you, photos of the hairstyle you want, and the clothes you want to be shown in. Please send me several different options for hair and clothing, as I am not a great artist and some things may be too complicated for my skills.
Please describe what you want in detail, as well as what you will settle for if I can't manage what you want.
Please do not ask for anything I can't, won't, or don't usually do -- like noses, a full comic, or nudity.
Please don't expect your character to be more detailed than the ones in my comics (ie, shading).
In words, please specify expression, attitude, hair color, and any extra details that might be pertinent. (I like to know the personality of my subject.)
Feel free to refer to characters in comic panels that you like the look of (blush on cheeks, length of hair, etc).
Specify body type: normal or rounded.
Read the "important note" above. My doing this is a favor only and does not confer special priviledges on anyone.
I reserve the right to use any character to promote my comics.
Don't expect me to be prompt.
Example Description: "I've included three pictures of myself. I'd like a sassy character with red sunglasses on top of her head. Please attempt the hairstyle in 'me2.gif' but the clothes in 'me3.gif' -- and make my hair a dark blonde (it's dirty-dishwater blonde, so). I like dogs and horses, so I'll settle for a t-shirt with a horse on it if you can't do the black mesh thing I'm wearing in 'me2.gif'. And bangles on my wrists, please. Thanks!"
Donation Gift: Want a Story Edited?
Another gift is my editing abilities. However, so that writers in search of a cheap editor don't try to take advantage of this, I set a page cap at 12 pages (single spaced; 24 double-spaced) per donation. That means that a donation that is valued above 12 pages will still only get 12 pages worth of editing. Word count cut-off is around 6500 but can be slightly higher. If this makes things awkward for the writing you want edited, feel free to email me. I'm reasonable.
Price Per Word = $0.01
Calculations: 1 page ~ 540 words (single-spaced)
540 words x $0.01 = $5.40
The sign "~" means "about." By-page calculations are rough estimates only. To know how much you would have to donate to edit your story, find the word count and multiply by $0.01. Title, author name, and dedication can be subtracted from word count.
Important Note: This is NOT a pay-for-service situation. This is a gift of time and effort that I give out of appreciation for donations. Therefore, I will abide no pickiness, dissatisfaction, or requests for re-edits. This is a GIFT, as in "Don't look a ___ horse in the mouth." If you want a professional editor who will work with you as you write, hire a professional editor.
Specifications: Send me a word document (.doc) of your story. 12 point font, times new roman. Double spaced. I may use Google Docs if I need to make line-by-line notations. No more than 6500 words per donation/edit unless special permission is granted. Title, author name, and dedication can be subtracted from word count.
Please read my notes below for further rules and details.
I only accept one-time submissions: for example, the donator cannot send me page after page until the cap of 12 pages is met.
Being edited is a priviledge, not a right. I reserve the right to deny editing to anyone who abuses it. (i.e, Treats me like an editing service, which I am not.)
I am doing this expecting mostly teenagers and college-aged writers, but more mature writers are welcome.
Poetry, prose, and nonfiction accepted.
Does the price seem high? That's okay. Editing is actually really intense work. I have to print, read, mark, and make suggestions. Even if the finished edit doesn't look like much, I still have to put a lot of time into it.
This is a favor to site donators. Donations are what you give without expecting anything in return. Read the "important note" above.
Do not expect professional-grade edits. Expect the kind of thing I would turn in to my writing classes -- a 1 or 2 page summary of what is wrong, what you did well, and suggestions for improvement. Also, line-by-line notes on grammar and spelling.
My edits are usually fairly positive. Expect honesty and encouragement.
You may donate again and have another story edited if you wish.
Think of it as a workshop. You're getting feedback from a writer with (hopefully) more experience. It makes you stronger.
