Veronica Mars

Veronica Mars

I just started the teen detective series Veronica Mars this weekend and am already obsessed. In a “This is really exciting, I wish I could watch the rest in one night but dumb Chris took the DVDs home with him because we’re watching it as a group activity and he knows leaving them will keep me sleep-deprived for a week” sort of way.

Veronica solves mysteries. It’s her thing, kind of like Nancy Drew if Nancy had been kicked violently out of the popular clique right after her best friend died and her mom ran out on her. (And, of course, if Nancy Drew were a lot more sassy.) Though Veronica is a social pariah, she’s also the go-to girl for anyone with a mystery, and she solves many cases for her friends that even her dad (the private investigator) doesn’t find out about.

Though I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone under fifteen due to language, occasional seediness, and the less-than-ethical ways Veronica uses to defeat her enemies, it is a strong storyline with great acting, satisfying conclusions, and addictive mysteries.

The series was canceled after three seasons, so buying it for yourself won’t be a crazy investment, and I’ve read that a movie might be forthcoming to wrap up loose plot details. Which is exciting. ^_^
